Program Description:
Global Education Committee and Global Learning invite applications for faculty-led, short-term study away programs for AY 2018-19.  The online application process will open December 20, 2017, and close February 1, 2018.  If you have questions regarding the online application process or experience difficulties, please contact Darin Stromstad ( or 218-299-3083).

For AY 2018-19, Global Learning is making some changes to better support faculty who offer programs that advance the integrative learning graduation requirement and the diversity initiative of the college as well as commitments to sustainability, global citizenship, and civic engagement.  The college continues to affirm off-campus learning targets of 75% for study abroad and 100% for study away.  Meeting these targets will require new low-cost programs and domestic programs.  For AY 2018-19, the college will inaugurate a one-week Fall Interim that matches the existing one-week Spring Interim (mid-semester recess).  This calendar change will advance integrative learning opportunities which can be accomplished through the Exploration Seminar.  To help the college align global programming with the needs of students and to maintain student demand for study away, the Global Learning application process now includes updated questions and expectations for program design.

To prevent holdups in the Global Education Committee and to make use of what we know about strong enrollments and transformative learning, Study Away staff are available to consult with faculty as they imagine and prepare proposals for AY 2018-19.  The approval process for proposals will include one required policy and practice overview meeting during the application process.  This meeting will be scheduled at the convenience of faculty by Global Learning staff.

If you have questions about changes and opportunities in study away at Concordia, please contact Per Anderson ( for information or to schedule a conversation.
